Head's Up! New Canon imagePROGRAF PRO SERIES PRINTERS are coming! Por-2600 and Pro-4600 printers are shipping soon. Pro-6600 printers will ship in a month or two. These new printers will be on display in Louisville, KY at Imaging USA. These will be called Pro-2600 (24 inch), 4600 (44 inch) and 6600 (60 inch). Yup, they look similar to the current models with some interesting incremental updates.
Listing of many new features:
1. Improved archival permanence of the inks.
2. LED lights in the platen area so that people can see where to load cut sheets of paper easier and see printing progress through the clear top cover window.
3. Roll feed mechanism was improved in the last interation of the printer and has been made ever faster and more reliable in this new iteration.
4. Lower power consumption
5. Less ink consumption
6. More scratch resistance to ink
7. Top ink covers are now translucent so that you can see the red light indicators from a distance for low ink or out of ink warnings.
8. Front roll feed cover is now more transparent and has lines to indicate roll paper width.
9. Slightly more color gamut and slightly richer maximum blacks
10. Elimination of polystyrene packaging for a more ecological footprint.
11. Auto aligning of print head on the fly. No more initial print head alignments.
All in all, the previous models were great. These new models build on the previous success of the Pro Series and include new features and improvements customers have been asking for. I have yet to do any testing but will have a Pro-2600 on the showroom floor at our retail store in Hollywood soon. I will certainly be posting feedback in coming week. Sorry, new inks CAN NOT be put in the older model printers.
