All too seldom a first book appears by an artist with a perceptive eye and impeccable technique. Even more rare is a volume buy a superbly gifted artist who is both eloquent and unpretentious. Artist's Choice: The Photographs of Rod Dresser is such a book.
A Member of Freestyle's Advisory Board of Photographic Professionals, Rod Dresser is acclaimed for the remarkable quality of his prints and for his perceptive, widely conducted workshops. In this volume he has selected twenty-three eloquent photographs -- a diverse range of landscape, architectural, still and figure studies. Each is presented with a carefully selected visual detail, as well as the full image, superlatively reproduced and accompanied by the photographer's commentary on his personal choice and artistic techniques.
The introduction is by Dale W. Stultz, founder of the Photography Department at Christie's NYC, who notes Rod Dressers' association with the late Ansel Adams -- himself motivated by the spirit and creativity of Alfred Stieglitz and Edward Weston. The book contains 24 black and white images including 24 details of the aforementioned images. Each image is accompanied by a short essay including aesthetic and technical comments.
